The high density Russian Pine timber is very good for beehive boxes and is machined to exacting sizes. The end plates are radiused on the edges for comfort and to give better paint stickability.

The hand grips are all square cut so that box break tools can be used after a honey flow if necessary.

Branding is available on indent orders if ordered in pallet lots.

The internal dimensions of these supers are 365mm x 465mm wide.

Treatment:

Undipped - This means your high quality Russian Pine boxes are unassembled and in its natural state and will need some kind of protection from the weather.

Dipped - The box has been dipped in hot Microcrystalline for 9 to 10 minutes to preserve the timber for a long life outside. Microcrystalline is similar to Paraffin Wax but is a higher quality and has a melting point of 80 degrees. Paraffin Wax has been commonly used for beehive boxes but it will melt at 60 degrees and can leach out of the timber boxes on a hot summer day. This will leave them susceptible to rotting! 

Box Size:

1/2 Depth - Your Russian Pine box will be 133mm high & 20mm thick with 20 screw holes.  With Radiused outer edges you will have a very professional tidy finish. 1/2 depth is often used as a honey super for comb honey or just because its the lightest size when filled with honey.

3/4 Depth - Your Russian Pine box will be 185mm high & 20mm thick with 20 screw holes.  With Radiused outer edges you will have a very professional tidy finish. 3/4 depth is the most common size for honey supers as it is still a relatively manageable weight but allows for a good harvest per box. Some beekeepers find two 3/4 boxes a good size for a brood chamber.

Full Depth - Your Russian Pine box will be 240mm high & 20mm thick with 24 screw holes.  With Radiused outer edges you will have a very professional tidy finish. Full Depth is the most common size in beekeeping with it being used for brood chambers and honey supers. Beekeepers often will use two of these for the brood chamber.

Jumbo Depth - Your Russian Pine box will be 295mm high & 20mm thick with 28 screw holes.  With Radiused outer edges you will have a very professional tidy finish. Jumbo depth is usually used as an option of having just one brood super. This size is the closest arrangement you can have to the bees natural hive size in the wild.

Standard - This means your Russian Pine boxes will be made from standard grade timber(Some call it commercial grade). Some Standard pieces may have some tight knots but usually no knots on edges and no pith.

We have the three common sizes available:

Half Depth - These boxes are 133mm high and are commonly used for comb honey. 200 per pallet

Ideal Half Depth - These boxes are 146mm high and are also commonly used for comb honey. 200 per pallet

3/4 Depth - These boxes are 185mm high and are commonly used for honey supers. 200 per pallet

Full Depth - These boxes are 240mm high and are commonly used for brood chambers and honey supers. 150 per pallet

Treatment

These are available dipped in the flat packed form - save $$$ in freight.

The two options are:

Untreated - The wood is in its natural form ready for a coat of paint or some form of treatment.

Treated - the wood was been dipped in hot Microcrystalline wax for 7 minutes to give excellent long term weather protection

Larger orders of dipped and/or assembled components may incur an extended lead time - we will get in touch if this is the case.

Option - Kitset or assembled:

Kitset: The boxes will come flat packed ready for you to assemble. This is the most economical freight wise.

Assembled: We will assemble the boxes for you. They will be stapled together with 50mm galv staples on all corners. Please note, 1/2 and ideal depth may have extra lead time on this option. if your urgent, contact us direct. Same goes for large orders on all sizes.

These wooden supers are made from a lower quality selection of NZ Pine.

The components will usually contain piths and knots but will be bee tight.

These are a great economical option for doing the job.

Jumbo hives are a fantastic option for those looking at a single box for the brood nest.

1 jumbo box brood nest is the closest size to a hive in the wild and perform very efficiently.

Compatible with both wooden and technoset bases, lids and supers.
