Microcrystalline Wax has been used for many years in NZ by a small number of commercial beekeepers to preserve their Brood Boxes. It is a highly refined wax with a melting point between 78 and 80 degrees Celsius. Paraffin Wax has a melting point between 58 and 60 degrees and is commonly used by hundreds of Beekeepers now in NZ. On a hot summers day, the surface temperature on a brood box can reach 60 degrees and allow the paraffin to leach out of the timber and leave it unprotected. Microcrystalline wax will not do that and there are reports of boxes lasting up to 30 years with Microcrystalline wax being the only treatment used.
Some Beekeepers mix Microcrystalline Wax with Paraffin Wax to increase its melting point and quality.
Price is for a 50kg carton. 20 cartons per pallet.
