Product overview
The V-Gate is a dedicated vaporizing access point built into a compatible 21mm rim. It is designed to make oxalic acid vaporization application easier, cleaner and more consistent, without needing to alter the brood box itself.
Instead of pushing a vaporizer through timber, the V-Gate uses a metal-on-metal plate design to help reduce wear, maintain better nozzle alignment and reduce nozzle chilling during repeated use.
A large number of beekeepers now use Swedish Cloth strips on top of the brood frames. The 21mm rim gives the correct bee space between the strips and the excluder mesh for maximum efficacy. Beekeepers report they get minimal burr comb on the excluder mesh if they use the cloth strips during the honey flow.
The rims are assembled with 38mm stainless-steel pancake-head screws for maximum strength and longevity.

Why choose V-Gate on an excluder?
Built for acid treatment workflows — a dedicated vaporizing port for oxalic acid vaporizing application.
Great vaporizing placement — applies vaporizing into the cavity above the brood nest for excellent coverage through the brood area.
Ideal with ventilated floors — vaporizing enters from above the colony rather than escaping through bottom vents.
Metal-on-metal design — reduces timber wear from repeated vaporizer entry and helps avoid ovalled-out wooden holes.
Helps prevent nozzle chill — avoids the cooling effect caused by cold, wet wood, allowing more applications before cleaning is required.
Front or side access — choose the position that best suits your hive setup and treatment routine.
Why stainless steel matters
As acid treatments become more common, rusty galvanised queen excluders can become a real hassle. This excluder uses stainless steel, making it a better long-term choice for beekeepers using acid treatment systems.
Stainless steel excluder mesh for long-lasting performance.
Very gentle on bees’ wings.
Great for acid treatments and general hive use.
Wooden rim for strength, durability and easy handling.
Closable 75mm entry option available for two-queen systems or a second entrance.

A smart, eco-minded trap designed for effective hornet capture while reducing bycatch to avoid clogging the trap unnecessarily.
The yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina) is a serious biosecurity threat to honeybees and other pollinators. Biosecurity New Zealand is currently responding to detections on Auckland’s North Shore, and is urging the public to stay vigilant and report sightings.
Why this matters for NZ beekeepers
Hornets prey on bees at hive entrance causing the bees to stay in the hive.
The ongoing stress of this "hawking" can cause colony collapse
Early detection will give eradication a high chance of success
The GOOD4BEES trap is suited to monitoring and targeted trapping—particularly where hornet activity is suspected or where you want an extra layer of protection around apiaries.
It is extremely well built and made to last a long time. The structure is rigid and durable for NZ conditions. The attractant is protected from rain dilution to give great results in all weather. The base is very easy to remove to refill with attractant without risk of any hornets escaping.
Key feature: bycatch release mechanisms
Unlike basic “bucket” style traps, this design is built around selectivity:
Calibrated entry aimed at hornet-sized insects
Dedicated escape routes so smaller insects can exit
No-drowning design (bait is separated from insects) to reduce unnecessary mortality
Result: effective trapping, with less collateral damage to beneficial insects.
Transparent bait reservoir for quick checks and easy cleaning -
Dual-wick diffusion system to increase scent release
Ventilation openings to help disperse attractant odour
Biosecurity NZ uses a mix of carbohydrate and protein trapping approaches in their response work. We recommend mixing Grape Juice and Brown Sugar 50/50 for Bait. This has been very successful in Georgia, USA.
Tip. When hornets die, they put out a pheromone that attracts more hornets. If you are in a hornet area, leave 2 or 3 dead hornets in the trap at all times, where possible.
2) Capture
Hornets tend to move toward light—this design encourages top-section movement
A flexible one-way cone helps reduce escapes once inside
This “anti-return cone” concept and the broader attract–capture–select approach are well established in European hornet-trapping products and use
3) Select (in/out control)
Entry sizing helps limit access by larger non-target insects. (Not important in NZ)
Escape points help smaller insects get out
Separated bait reduces drowning risk
Many modern selective traps use the same principles—calibrated entrances, escape routes, and anti-drowning features—to reduce impact on non-target insects.
Simple to use
Hang it or place it on the ground
Quick visual inspection of bait level
Reusable, durable construction
Works with liquid or solid baits
Compact and lightweight: approx. 18 × 13 × 13 cm, ~95 g.
Note: The product is packed as a kitset to save shipping costs. Some simple assembly is required. Instructions are included.
Important: reporting in New Zealand
If you suspect you’ve seen a yellow-legged hornet or a nest, do not disturb it or attempt control—report it as soon as possible. Biosecurity NZ specifically asks people not to spray or remove suspected nests, as this can make eradication harder.
Biosecurity NZ hotline: 0800 809 966
You can also report online via MPI’s reporting tool (select “plants, spiders or insects”)

The all-new InstantVap® 18V TURBO has arrived — faster, smarter and more powerful than ever!
Building on the success of the Compact, the TURBO makes vaporizing oxalic acid (OA) in beehives even more efficient, with a high-power furnace, dynamic temperature control, and a smart LED interface for large-scale, reliable treatment.
NEW Turbo Design: This model delivers quicker cycles (around 13 seconds per 2g dose) and precision control. With an easy-to-read LED display showing temperature, battery voltage, cycle counters and status lights, the Turbo is purpose-built for professional beekeepers needing speed in the field.
NEW LED display & counters This includes live temperature and battery voltage, total cycles, cycles per battery, plus smart status light codes noted below: - Slow blink = warming up, Solid = ready, Fast blink = vaporizing, Double blink + pause = low battery.
The Turbo combines strength and practicality — stainless-steel, acid-resistant frame, replaceable 6mm brass nozzle, double-wall furnace for cold/windy weather, and built-in over-discharge battery protection.
It is extremely cost-effective per application! Oxalic Acid costs less than 2 cents per hive for a 2 gram dose (based on bulk pricing). Treat thousands of hives for just a few dollars in materials.
The Vaporizer bowl temperature is very important to maximize the output of the Oxalic Acid without degrading it. Extensive lab testing shows that keeping the bowl temperature between 230 and 260 degrees Celsius is best:
Applications & suggested dose rates.
1. For beehives with solid bases, apply 2g of OA vapour at the bottom entry. Block the entry with a wet towel for 5–7 minutes.
2. For vented bases, use a vent blocker sheet, then follow the same process.
3. For hives with difficult-to-seal vented bases, apply 3g from the top via hive mat notch or excluder door/notch. See our stainless steel excluders with entry.
4. If the hive has a top feeder with a wooden rim, many beekeepers are applying the vapour through the rim directly below the feeder tray and into the bee space. Drill a 6.5mm hole in the rim on a slight downward angle to direct the vapour below the feeder tray. Plug with a golf tee or similar between treatments.
5. Through-the-wall dosing: drill a 6.5mm hole in the brood box and insert the brass nozzle. Plug with a golf tee or similar between treatments. It is best to locate the hole as high as possible at the side of the front plate so the vapour is directed alongside the outer frame. This method is the least most desirable of the 5 options.
NB. There should be 80mm to 100mm of free air space in front of the nozzle during discharge. Otherwise, 10% - 20% of the oxalic acid will solidify on a surface that is right in front and too close.
Included with each Turbo: 1 × InstantVap Turbo Vaporizer (choose your battery socket) 1 × Oxalic Acid Dispenser 1 × Cleaning Cap 2 × Spare O-Rings Batteries not included
The finer details:

Mite Wash Detergent – Fast & Effective Mite Control
Looking for the easiest and most effective way to get accurate mite counts in your hives? Our Mite Wash Detergent is based on the same formula as the detergent that is recommended by Randy Oliver of ScientificBeekeeping.com It has to be a "high sud" formula. Low sud detergents do not work effectively. Randy prefers the high sud detergent to alcohol. It kills the bees & mites quickly and humanely, and dislodge mites fast so you get a reliable reading with minimal fuss. It also stays clear for a longer period of time so that you can re-use the solution many times.
We've tested numerous options over the years, and nothing compares to the performance of this product. It’s fast-acting, inexpensive, and hassle-free.
How to Use: The detergent is high concentration and should be diluted 1:100 with water.
Mix 10ml of detergent per litre of water for optimal results. The 100ml bottle has a flip cap for precise easy use.
The economical 1 Litre bottle option can be used for refilling the 100ml bottles or making up a bulk batch of wash solution.
Key Features:
Extremely low cost per wash. Approx. 2 cents per wash if the same solution is used 8 times.
Quickly & humanely kills bees for accurate mite washing.
Dislodges mites fast for precise counts.
Easy to use and cost-effective.
The most reliable option we've tested.
Available in 100ml and 1 litre bottle options. Click on the tab above.
Dilute 1:100 with water when making up the mite wash solution.
If you are serious about effective Varroa Mite monitoring, this is the wash detergent that you must have in your toolkit.
Caution! Never shake a mite wash jar. Accurate results are only achieved if the wash jar is swirled to send the mites to outside of the jar and to drop through the bottom holes.
Tip: This product is fantastic for bubble blowing competitions!

Stay on top of Varroa mite infestations with this ergonomic, easy-to-use Varroa sampling cup. This simple yet effective tool helps beekeepers monitor mite levels in their colonies and make informed treatment decisions.
Features:
Ergonomic Design: Compact and comfortable for easy handling during inspections.
Complete Kit: Includes one fluid-holding cup, one bee sample cup, and one lid.
Alternatively use solution already mixed in bulk or alcohol with 90% strength.
Take a frame of brood and bees from a beehive and carefully check that the queen is not on it.
Shake all the bees off the frame into a container like a beehive lid (upside down). Carefully check again that there is no queen.
Bump the lid so any field bees take flight and go back to the hive. There will be mostly nurse bees remaining.
Shake the bees into a corner of the lid and collect a level 1/2 cup of bees (125ml) and dump it into the mite wash cup.
Immediately put the lid on the cup. Gently tap cup up and down to ensure all the bees are submerged.
Let the bee sample sit for 1 minute to allow for the mites to release from the bees.
Then gently swirl the cups for at least 30 seconds to allow the mites to precipitate through the bees. Swirl to resonate with the wave, just enough so that the bees at the bottom are gently tumbling.
Remove the lid and lift the perforated cup out and dump the bees.
Count the mites that have settled on the bottom of the solid cup. A 150mm 10x magnifying mirror placed 100mm below the cup will make it easy. (NB. Don't leave the mirror in direct sunlight. It can start a fire!)
Caution! Never shake a mite wash jar. Accurate results are only achieved if the wash jar is swirled to send the mites to outside of the jar and to drop through the bottom holes.

Take control of hive health effortlessly with the Nassenheider Professional Evaporator. This long-term evaporation system is designed for safe and effective treatment in beehives. Perfect for autumn (and spring) use, it utilizes a 65% formic acid (FA) solution for consistent evaporation over a 20-day period when using the No.2 wick. Beehives with high pest pressure can be brought into balance in a relatively short space of time. In areas with high re-infestation issues, it is recommended to do 2 treatments. For treatments in summer or during a honey flow, we recommend using Oxalic Acid Extended-release (OAE) strips.
Key Benefits:
Cost-Effective Hive Care – A reliable, long-term solution that reduces expenses.
Healthier Bees – Clients report reduced symptoms of chalkbrood and nosema after a 20-day FA treatment.
Boosted Honey Yields – Stronger colonies mean better honey production.
No Resistance – Nowhere in the world have pests grown resistance to these natural products – Formic Acid, Oxalic Acid or Thymol.
Proven over Many Years – European beekeepers have been using natural products for over 40 years.
No Residues – Formic Acid and Oxalic Acid leave zero residues in the comb.
Less Sugar Feeding – Healthier bees naturally gather more food during the off-season.
Simplified Safety – Easy-to-follow procedures minimize risks when handling formic acid. 65% FA is safer to handle than common off-the-shelf 84% FA.
Product Features:
Complete Kit: Includes the evaporator, 250ml bottle, and three wick sizes for adjustable evaporation rates.
No. 1 Wick: Very slow evaporation and suggested for use in nucleus colonies.
No. 2 Wick: Ideal for single brood box colonies, evaporating 250ml of FA in approximately 18 days. Filling the bottle to the top (≈290ml) lasts around 20 days — about 14ml/day.
No. 3 Wick: Recommended for double brood box colonies. One of our tests in Jan 2025 showed 250ml evaporation in 7 days (≈36ml/day).
Versatile Design: The evaporator requires a 75mm spacer rim located directly above the brood box. 90mm top feeder rims or empty supers can also be used.
With 65% Formic Acid, it is recommended to evaporate between 9 and 22 millilitres per day per full-depth brood box. 22ml per day in one brood box is at a level where it is thought to disrupt pests under the cell cap. However, that high level of exposure is not necessary for good control. 14ml per day will eliminate virtually all phoretic pests (those on adult bees). Drone cells are capped for 14 days, so as long as there is continuous application for at least 15 days, effective control can be achieved.
Safety
Formic Acid liquid, and the gas from the liquid, can damage skin and eye tissue. It is very important that suitable protective clothing is worn. This is especially important when filling bottles from bulk containers. A respirator mask with face protection, nitrile gloves, PVC apron, and overalls should all be worn. Replacing empty bottles with full bottles in the field requires nitrile gloves as a minimum. Stand upwind when performing this procedure.
Field-Tested Results:
In a Featherston field trial, where autumn hive health management was historically challenging, the Nassenheider Evaporator delivered outstanding results, significantly improving colony strength and overall health. Read the full blog HERE.
Usage Tips:
Assemble evaporator parts with the desired wick size.
Spread the fleece cloth in the tray and secure it with the clips provided. Double up the cloth at one end so the post for the bottle clamp is not covered.
Fit the bottle holder onto the post.
In an outdoor location and with suitable protective clothing, fill the bottle with 250ml of FA and secure the lid for safe transportation.
At the apiary site, place the tray on top of the brood nest.
Remove lid from bottle and screw on the evaporator while the bottle is vertical.
Check the screw connection for tightness to ensure safe operation.
Place the bottle with evaporator into the bottle holder. See video for more info.
Fit a 75mm rim to surround the evaporator. Fit hive mat and lid.
For creative beekeepers: Cut old full-depth boxes into three rims and paraffin-dip them for sterilization.
Top Tip: Extra bottles can be purchased separately here. Fill hundreds of bottles safely, then fit them to evaporators in the field as required. The beekeeper is exposed to minimal FA and only needs protective gloves — similar to handling Formic Pro pads.
NB. If your beehive has a vented base, it is recommended to block the vents and leave the front entrance fully open for best results.
Engineered for performance and safety, the Nassenheider Professional Evaporator is trusted by beekeepers to protect their hives effectively. With 46 units per carton, stock up for your apiary or share with fellow beekeepers. Order in multiples of 46 for the best value!

Important: Research from clients in the USA states that four strips are more effective than using a single pad with the same surface area. Having 260% more edge line significantly improves efficacy.
Packed 4000 per carton, 80,000 per pallet.
Directions:
Prepare a solution comprising 50% Oxalic Acid Dihydrate and 50% food-grade glycerine by weight. See detailed instructions and videos in the mixing guide. Beequip Cardboard strips are soaked in a solution of 40% Oxalic Acid, whereas Swedish Cloth strips use a 50% solution. Note that a 50% OA/Glycerine solution takes slightly longer to dissolve and mix properly.
While the solution is around 54–58°C, soak each strip with approximately 25 grams of solution. Place the strips on their edges in a flat-bottomed soak bin, ideally in a warm place (20–30°C). Strips absorb the solution fully within 60 minutes. Allow the bin to stay in a warm place for 24 hours to equalise the solution distribution. When cooled to room temperature, the solution will solidify within each strip.
The strips can then be used immediately or packed into airtight ziplock bags for long-term storage.
A typical strong colony with two brood boxes should have four strips placed horizontally between the brood boxes, leaving spaces between the strips.
Scrape off burr comb first.
The four strips work more effectively than using a single larger pad.
Reports from the USA indicate that this system is extremely effective when placed horizontally between the brood boxes in double brood box hives. However, there were questions about efficacy when used over single brood box colonies.
In New Zealand trials during the 2024–25 summer, the cloth strips showed very good efficacy in single brood hives with the following method: -
Laying strips horizontally over the brood box.
Using a rimmed queen excluder to maintain bee space.
Stacking honey supers above.
The beekeepers who did this trial said they were very impressed with the results, and plan to repeat the process next season. They also said that the bees built little burr comb on top of the excluder mesh - an excellent surprise.
Strong colonies maintained strip temperatures above 32°C, keeping the glycerine liquid, and the oxalic acid active. With heavy bee traffic, oxalic acid was effectively spread throughout the brood nest. (We were concerned in NZ that the strips could get cold. No OAE (oxalic acid extended-release) strips work very well if they get below 30°C. They need to be at brood temperature or close to it).
Important Tip for Double Brood Box use
When the soaked strips are placed between two brood boxes, it is very important that all the burr comb is removed so that there is a bee space above the strips. If this is not done, the burr comb can squash a lot of solution out of the strips and prevent the bees from walking on them and transferring the solution around the hive. The strips will be rendered largely ineffective.
A Sustainable Summer Treatment
The evidence is clear: Swedish Cloth strips are a reliable option for summer oxalic acid treatments, provided colonies are strong enough to maintain warmth and distribute the treatment.
Some of the advantages:-
Low cost and very easy to apply
10 – 12 weeks of good efficacy
Does not cover brood on the frames, causing death like most other strips.
All natural product.
Can be used during the honey flow.
The bees will discard most of the strip outside the hive if they are left in place for a long enough period.
Winter Use?
Early results also suggest potential for winter use, though more research is needed. A field trial done from Jan 2025 to late Aug 2025 in the nelson region showed very good results.
Conclusion. If there is a bee space above the strips, and enough bees in the hive to keep them at the right temperature and to give good foot travel on them, then they will work very well anytime.
At Beequip, we’re excited to support beekeepers with innovative, sustainable solutions like Swedish Cloth strips—helping hives thrive, naturally.
