35mm - Your Kitset frames will have an end bar size of 35mm. 35mm means that 10 frames will fit in a standard super with a near perfect fit. This will give thicker built out frames and also consistent spacing between the frames. This is often used in honey supers to get the thicker frames and more yield.

Manuka Special is a thicker style often used in the brood and honey chambers. Being thicker it gives more durability to the frame once drawn out and also gives the bees more wax to work with while drawing it out.

All of the beeswax used for this comb foundation is first heated to approximately 110 degrees Celsius before being micro filtered to remove all dross and moisture. This ensures that when you buy our comb foundation, you are only paying for pure beeswax.

The filtered liquid beeswax then passes to the  sheeting machine.This converts the beeswax from a liquid state into a continuous flat sheet and is one of the secrets of making high quality comb foundation. During this process, the beeswax gains greatly in elasticity and strength to the point where a piece of cold comb foundation can be scrunched up and then flattened out again without breaking.

The rolls of sheet then pass to the automatic milling machine. The pure beeswax sheet passes between two precision engraved rollers which imprint the pattern onto the beeswax. The continuous sheet is then cut to size.

Throughout the process, stringent quality control checks are continuously carried out. The life of our Comb Foundation is indefinite if stored in proper packaging and in dry conditions. Because of its purity, it is not attacked by wax moths.

Undipped - This means your high quality Russian Pine boxes are assembled with stainless screws but is in its natural state and will need some kind of protection from the weather.

Dipped - The box has been assembled with 24 stainless steel screws then dipped in hot Microcrystalline for 9 to 10 minutes to preserve the timber for a long life outside. Microcrystalline is similar to Paraffin Wax but is a higher quality and has a melting point of 80 degrees. Paraffin Wax has been commonly used for beehive boxes but it will melt at 60 degrees and can leach out of the timber boxes on a hot summer day. This will leave them susceptible to rotting! 

Frame Endbar Size:

This Package Includes:

There is only 7 frames for a full depth package as we recommend putting a frame of honey on the outsides of the 7 frames to draw the bees up into the frames and make them start drawing it out. 

The spacer screws are to be screwed into the four corners of one side on each frame so that the frames self space and give an even finish on the honeycomb.

When the containers need to be removed, simply insert a screw driver in the holes on the top and bottom of the frame.

Yellow-legged Hornet (Vespa Velutina) Selective Trap

Target hornets. Let non-target insects go.

A smart, eco-minded trap designed for effective hornet capture while reducing bycatch to avoid clogging the trap unnecessarily.

The yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina) is a serious biosecurity threat to honeybees and other pollinators. Biosecurity New Zealand is currently responding to detections on Auckland’s North Shore, and is urging the public to stay vigilant and report sightings.

Why this matters for NZ beekeepers

• Hornets prey on bees at hive entrance causing the bees to stay in the hive.
• The ongoing stress of this "hawking" can cause colony collapse 
• Early detection will give eradication a high chance of success

The GOOD4BEES trap is suited to monitoring and targeted trapping—particularly where hornet activity is suspected or where you want an extra layer of protection around apiaries.

How it works

1) Attract

• Transparent bait reservoir for quick checks and easy cleaning -

Biosecurity NZ uses a mix of carbohydrate and protein trapping approaches in their response work. We recommend mixing Grape Juice and Brown Sugar 50/50 for Bait. This has been very successful in Georgia, USA.

Tip. When hornets die, they put out a pheromone that attracts more hornets. If you are in a hornet area, leave 2 or 3 dead hornets in the trap at all times, where possible. 

2) Capture

• Hornets tend to move toward light—this design encourages top-section movement
• A flexible one-way cone helps reduce escapes once inside

This “anti-return cone” concept and the broader attract–capture–select approach are well established in European hornet-trapping products and use

3) Select (in/out control)

• Entry sizing helps limit access by larger non-target insects. (Not important in NZ)
• Escape points help smaller insects get out
• Separated bait reduces drowning risk

Many modern selective traps use the same principles—calibrated entrances, escape routes, and anti-drowning features—to reduce impact on non-target insects.
