Commercial Beekeeping Equipment & Setup Support
Setting Up or Expanding a Commercial Beekeeping Operation?
If you are seriously considering a commercial beekeeping setup, expanding an existing apiary or returning to the industry, it is worth talking to us before investing heavily in equipment.
At Beequip, we are beekeepers ourselves. We work with New Zealand beekeepers at every level, including established commercial operators and people moving into larger-scale beekeeping.
We can help you work through the practical side of your setup, choose equipment that works together and make sure you are buying for where your operation is heading—not only where it is today.
Why talk to Beequip?
Once hive numbers increase, equipment choices make a real difference.
Compatible boxes, frames and hive components make preparation, transport, storage and repairs much easier. The right systems can also save considerable time during spring build-up, treatment periods and the honey flow.
Talk to us about:
- Boxes, bases, hive mats and compatible frame systems
- Assembled equipment and Ready-to-Go Honey Supers
- Varroa monitoring and treatment options
- Vaporisers, treatment equipment and accessories
- Queen-rearing and nucleus colony equipment
- Honey-production and comb-honey systems
- Equipment quantities for a new or expanding operation
- Staging larger purchases over time
We can talk through the options, explain the differences and help you avoid buying equipment that may not suit the operation later.
Equipment that works as your operation grows
A few mismatched boxes or frames may be manageable when you have a small number of hives. At commercial scale, they can create unnecessary work every time equipment is assembled, moved, stored or returned to the apiary.
Planning a consistent system from the beginning makes it easier to:
- Prepare equipment efficiently
- Keep spare components ready
- Move frames and boxes between compatible hives
- Organise storage and transport
- Replace or repair equipment
- Add more hives without changing systems again
If you already own equipment, let us know what you are using. We can help you identify compatible options and build around what is still suitable.

Hive health needs to be part of the setup
Successful commercial beekeeping depends on more than hive numbers. Colonies need good queens, adequate food, enough room and consistent attention to their health throughout the season.
Varroa is one of the most important considerations. A colony struggling with varroa will not build or produce as it should, and problems can spread quickly across a larger operation.
Beequip is experienced in a wide range of varroa monitoring and treatment equipment. We can discuss the available options and help you select practical systems for your hive numbers and preferred way of working.
The aim is to establish something repeatable—an approach that can be monitored, recorded and carried out consistently across the whole operation.
Be prepared before the busy season
As hive numbers increase, so does the amount of equipment that needs to be ready before the bees require it.
Running short of boxes or frames during rapid spring growth can lead to lost time and missed opportunities. Supers, frames and spare hive components are much easier to prepare before the honey flow than during it.
We can help you estimate likely equipment requirements and organise larger orders in advance. Beequip also offers Ready-to-Go Honey Supers, supplied pre-assembled and complete with frames, for beekeepers who need additional capacity without adding another major assembly job during the season.
Advice based on the operation you are building
There is no single equipment list that suits every commercial beekeeper.
What you need will depend on your expected hive numbers, apiary locations, transport, the equipment you already own and what you intend to produce.
You may be building an operation around:
- Bulk or packed honey production
- Pollination
- Queen or nucleus colony production
- Comb honey and other premium products
- A combination of different income streams
Tell us what you are planning and where you would like the operation to go. We can help you compare options and put together an equipment setup that makes sense for the work ahead.
Talk to people who understand beekeeping
We know that setting up or expanding an operation involves significant decisions. Our role is not to sell you everything at once. It is to help you understand what you will need, what should work together and what can reasonably be added later.
You will receive practical, honest advice from people who know beekeeping and understand the pressures of managing hives through the New Zealand seasons.
Talk to Beequip about your setup
If you are already investigating a commercial beekeeping operation, expanding your current hive numbers or replacing an existing equipment system, give the Beequip team a call.
It helps if you can tell us:
- Approximately how many hives you currently have
- The scale you are working towards
- What equipment you already own
- What you intend to produce
- Which parts of the setup you need help with
From there, we can talk through the practical options and help you plan the next step.
