The new V-Gate
The V-Gate is a dedicated port for vaporizing into a beehive, designed to make oxalic acid vapour application easier, cleaner and more consistent.
The V-Gate is a simple but smart fixture built into a 21mm rim. It creates a dedicated vaporizing access point that can be fitted to compatible hiveware such as hive mats, excluders, division boards, and merging boards.
Instead of pushing a vaporizer through timber or relying on temporary access points, the V-Gate uses a metal-on-metal plate design. This helps reduce wear from repeated use and avoids the heat transfer issues that can occur when vaporizing through wood. It is very fast and easy to use.
Dedicated vapour port
A purpose-built access point for vaporizing directly into the hive without needing to alter the brood box itself. The bees use this hole for exit and entry and keep it clean for the next vape! When fitted to a hive mat, it allows for the release of damp air, reducing condensation in the hive.
Metal-on-metal design
Designed to handle repeated vaporizer use with less wear than standard timber access points. A wooden entry point with repeated entries goes oval and causes incorrect nozzle alignment. It is important that the nozzle has 100mm of free air space to prevent the acid from solidifying on the surfaces nearby.
Prevents nozzle chill
If the nozzle gets below 156°C, acid will start to solidify inside the tube.
Cold wet wood will chill the nozzle causing it to block up much quicker. The V-Gate prevents this problem allowing for many more applications before cleaning is required.
Designed for better vapour placement
The V-Gate is designed so the vapour is applied into an empty cavity above the brood nest. This is a major advantage when using ventilated floors, as the vapour enters from above the colony rather than escaping out the bottom vents and being lost. The V-Gate gives excellent coverage through the brood nest without having to block the vents in the base.
Ports can be positioned on either the front or side of compatible hiveware, depending on your setup and how you prefer to access the hive during treatment.
