Why Choose Microcrystalline Wax?

While paraffin wax (58–60°C melting point) is widely used, it can soften and leach out under summer heat, leaving timber vulnerable. Thin Super Foundation for Large Comb Honey Container - 132mm x 89mm

Congratulations on enrolling in the Land Based Training Apiculture course!

As you will be aware some equipment is provided in the course but not all of the essentials. We have made it easy for you and setup these special packages to provide you with the rest of the essential equipment you will need. The items included are based on feedback from Tutors and what we see best for you.

This package is for people running 3/4 Depth hives and includes a Suit and Gloves

Included in the package:

Assembled 3/4 Depth Box
These are extra supers for your hive. The frames below will go in these and they will need to go on the hive as it grows. They are untreated and will need painting like the box in your course.

8 x Wooden frames with Medium Brood Wax Fitted
These are for the first wooden box above - they are for the second brood nest. You will build the first brood box in your course. We have done wood and wax as this is the most natural and best for the brood nest. There is only 8 as we are allowing for a frame feeder mentioned below

1 x 3/4 Frame Feeder
This is an essential part of a hive as in winter the hive can use up all its stores and need to be fed Sugar Syrup to stay alive. As mentioned above, we have only done 8 frames for the second brood box so you can fit this in. It may need to be put in your first brood box if your hive is only 1 story high.

1 x SS Queen excluder with wooden rim
When your hive is ready to produce honey you will need to put on the honey super mentioned above. This excluder will go between the brood boxes and the hive to stop the queen going into the honey and laying eggs. you only want honey bees in there!

1 x Emlock Strapper
Keep this around your hive at all times when you are not going through it. it will keep everything secure and tidy.

1 x Pack of 4 Apivar Strips
this is a varroa treatment for your bees. It is normal that within the first 6 months of having your bees, you will need to treat them for varroa. these strips will treat both brood boxes.

The service life of any acid gas cartridge filter is affected by many factors.

Replace both the filters: -

• When the expiry date stamped on the sealed packet has elapsed.
• Once opened, maximum use time is 6 months (even if not used). The carbon will absorb contaminants from the general environment.
• When contaminant can be detected by smell or taste.

Simply add your standard lid, hive mat, a full depth box of brood and 3 queen cells to make up these nucleus beehives.

This setup has huge benefits as it is a low cost way of setting up multiple nucleus hives for long term use. Having 3 nucs under one roof saves time when checking hives and they share heat between them, saving precious energy stores to keep warm.

The top feeders are excellent. They take no space in the brood box and allow you to feed sugar syrup and pollen patties to each Nuc without disturbing the bees.

Each of the entries can be a different colour to help the queens return to the right colony after mating flights.

This 3 x 3 frame nucleus beehive can be used to over-winter 3 autumn mated queens or the dividers can be removed and the 3 colonies united to become one colony for the winter. If using the hive without dividers, a strip of wood or piece of foam is required between the feeders to keep the feeder area bee proof.

Please note. The plastic divider boards may need to be slightly trimmed at each end to fit your wooden brood box. Wooden brood boxes in NZ can vary slightly in their internal dimensions.

Stay on top of Varroa mite infestations with this ergonomic, easy-to-use Varroa sampling cup. This simple yet effective tool helps beekeepers monitor mite levels in their colonies and make informed treatment decisions.

Features:

• Simple Process: Fill with  Beequip Mite Wash detergent (10 ml per 1 litre of water) or 90% alcohol.

How to Use - WATCH VIDEO HERE:

1. 1. Place the perforated cup inside the solid cup.
   2. Add water to the cups up to the fill line. (Approx 70mm from the bottom) Will be approx. 250ml.
   3. Add 2.5ml (half a teaspoon) of the  Beequip Mite Wash detergent and stir until mixed thoroughly.
   4. Alternatively use solution already mixed in bulk or alcohol with 90% strength.
   5. Take a frame of brood and bees from a beehive and carefully check that the queen is not on it.
   6. Shake all the bees off the frame into a container like a beehive lid (upside down). Carefully check again that there is no queen.
   7. Bump the lid so any field bees take flight and go back to the hive. There will be mostly nurse bees remaining.
   8. Shake the bees into a corner of the lid and collect a level 1/2 cup of bees (125ml) and dump it into the mite wash cup.
   9. Immediately put the lid on the cup. Gently tap cup up and down to ensure all the bees are submerged.
   10. Let the bee sample sit for 1 minute to allow for the mites to release from the bees.
   11. Then gently swirl the cups for at least 30 seconds to allow the mites to precipitate through the bees.  Swirl to resonate with the wave, just enough so that the bees at the bottom are gently tumbling.
   12. Remove the lid and lift the perforated cup out and dump the bees.
   13. Count the mites that have settled on the bottom of the solid cup. A 150mm 10x magnifying mirror placed 100mm below the cup will make it easy. (NB. Don't leave the mirror in direct sunlight. It can start a fire!)

Caution! Never shake a mite wash jar. Accurate results are only achieved if the wash jar is swirled to send the mites to outside of the jar and to drop through the bottom holes.

The 3mm PP board is designed to be fitted into the rim of a Technosetbee queen excluder with top entry, to allow two colonies to be safely united.

Can be used on any standard 10 frame Langstroth bee hive.

Stainless Steel Wax Press is the way to get the last of your honey from your cappings.
It works simply by screwing the contents of the basket,and therefore squeezing out any honey left in the cappings.

It also means you are left with much clear wax, which is great for melting down and mading into candles etc.

Russian Pine Jumbo size Box with assembled Wooden Frames:

This listing is for:-

• 1 x Russian Pine Jumbo size Box. Standard grade.
• 10 x Jumbo size Russian Pine Frames with 33mm end bars and grooved bottom bars.
• 10 x sheets of Heavy Brood 266 Beeswax Foundation, fitted to the frames.

The box is screwed together with 28 stainless steel screws and will require painting or some form of weather protection. Russian Pine is very slow growing so the growth rings are close together to make a denser and more stable material for beehives.These boxes are excellent quality and have rounded outer edges on the front and back plates. This makes it easier to paint and it sheds the rain better.

Timber thickness of the box is 20mm.

Approximate internal dimensions of the box: 365mm x 465mm x 295mm high.

Feeding your bees has never been easier with the range of Technosetbee top feeders.

This valve allows you to quickly and efficiently fill the underlying feeder without moving the Hive cover. Simply open the cap and pour the syrup in. The syrup level is clearly visible so that you don't overfill.

Hive cover can be ordered from the factory with valve fitted.

Compatible also with conventional hive covers up to a thickness of 13mm.
