Excellent tool for AP2 apiary inspectors. Fit a plastic bag over the Apisolis, cut a hole for the nozzle. It can then be used without soiling it with potential AFB contamination. Simply change the bag for each apiary and the bellows don't have to be sterilized. Save heaps of time!

The service life of any acid gas cartridge filter is affected by many factors.

Replace both the filters: -

• When the expiry date stamped on the sealed packet has elapsed.

Convert a full depth Technoset brood box in the most efficient way to start nucleus hives.

In a hurry to split hives? Fit the kit to a single brood box and come back 3 days later to see which two nucs have no eggs. Scrape off any queen cells and insert a new caged queen in each. Alternatively, two queen cells can be added with queens almost ready to emerge.

During winter, the hives share the warmth generated within the brood box.

In the case of a lost queen, a divider can be removed and the two colonies united.

Each feeder has a compartment with a lid for feeding pollen patties or protein supplements. The bees can only access the syrup in a narrow passage to prevent drowning. The feeders have vents to allow damp air to disperse through the vents in the Technoset roof. To refill the feeders, simply lift the roof and top up without any disturbance to the bees. Alternatively, three feeder valves can be fitted to the roof to avoid even lifting the roof when topping up the syrup.

The middle feeder includes the entrance for the middle Nuc and a sliding door.

Special Tool for Caging Queen bees without having to use your hands!

Simply pull the foam out, trap the queen in the pipette hole where the foam was.
Wait till she's walking up in it and put the foam back in place.
Take the smaller white cap out and direct the nozzle into a cage.

Congratulations on enrolling in the Land Based Training Apiculture course!

As you will be aware some equipment is provided in the course but not all of the essentials. We have made it easy for you and setup these special packages to provide you with the rest of the essential equipment you will need. The items included are based on feedback from Tutors and what we see best for you.

This package is for people running Full Depth hives and does not include Suit and Gloves. This is for students that have these already or would like to purchase a different style of suit and gloves.

2 x Assembled Full Depth Boxes
These are extra supers for your hive. The frames below will go in these and they will need to go on the hive as it grows. They are untreated and will need painting like the box in your course.

9 x Wooden frames with Medium Brood Wax Fitted
These are for the first wooden box above - they are for the second brood nest. You will build the first brood box in your course. We have done wood and wax as this is the most natural and best for the brood nest. There is only 9 as we are allowing for a frame feeder mentioned below

10 x Plastic Frames with Beeswax Coating
These frames are for the second box mentioned above. These are for honey collection super and will go above the queen excluder when your hive is ready to collect honey. We have done plastic frames as these are the strongest and cope with rigorous honey extraction. More honey supers maybe required as your hive continues to pull in honey.

1 x Full Depth Frame Feeder
This is an essential part of a hive as in winter the hive can use up all its stores and need to be fed Sugar Syrup to stay alive. As mentioned above, we have only done 9 frames for the second brood box so you can fit this in. It may need to be put in your first brood box if your hive is only 1 story high.

1 x SS Queen excluder with wooden rim
When your hive is ready to produce honey you will need to put on the honey super mentioned above. This excluder will go between the brood boxes and the hive to stock the queen going into the honey and laying eggs. you only want honey bees in there!

1 x Emlock Strapper
Keep this around your hive at all times when you are not going through it. it will keep everything secure and tidy.

1 x Pack of 4 Apivar Strips
this is a varroa treatment for your bees. It is normal that within the first 6 months of having your bees, you will need to treat them for varroa. these strips will treat both brood boxes.

1 x Smoker 25cm
Smokers are an essential tool of the Beekeepers. The Smoke will calm the bees when going through them, allowing you to relax and enjoy the experience.

1 x Kelly Hive tool - 24cm
When going through your hive, the hive tool will make it easy to crack the supers and remove frames for inspection.

NZ pine Kitset frames at Ideal Height - 136mm High. 35mm end bar.

These are the perfect height for doing cut-comb honey. You can get four 340g squares per frame. Fit 10 frames per box to keep the comb uniform.

The common procedure is to assemble the frames without wire and fit a strip of beeswax foundation in the top groove that will hang about 25mm below the top bar. It is secured in place by running a bead of molten beeswax into the groove. In a good flow, the bees will draw the comb from the top down to give nice perfect comb honey in a uniform shape on each frame. This top-of-the-line reversible extractor is available at an unbeatable price. The extractor's swinging baskets make honey extraction a breeze. With four baskets, you can easily extract both sides of four frames without taking them out - simply spin the opposite way and let centrifugal force do the work. 

Fits 3/4 depth frames and full depth frames.

The extractor is made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel and comes with a honey gate.

Gears are made of metal and will last very well.

Some clients put a 750w electric drill with dual speed and variable throttle on the drive shaft instead of the handle to convert it to electric.

General guide to honey extraction:

1. View video here. 
2. Ensure honey in the frames is warm enough. Straight off the hive is usually okay if the weather is not too cold and the bees have been brushed or blown off the frames. Otherwise, leave in a small warm room at around 28 degrees C for 48 hours.
3. Clean equipment before use.
4. Uncap frames as shown in video.
5. Use frames of similar weight on opposite sides to reduce vibrations.
6. Run extractor at about half speed to get half the honey out of the first side. If the frames have wax foundation and you go too fast, the weight of the honey on opposite side will damage the comb.
7. Turn frames around and spin honey from other side. Depending on honey type and temperature, one pass may be enough on second side or it may need to be done with 2 passes. 2^nd pass can be faster than the first.
8. Shift frames back to first side and extract remaining honey with a slightly faster speed.
9. Let the honey flow out of the extractor through a stainless steel double strainer and into food grade honey pails with honey gates at the bottom.
10. Leave the honey pail in warm place for 2 days to allow any wax residues and air bubbles to go to the top.
11. Then you can decant beautiful pure honey out of the honey gate at the bottom into polyjars, or similar.
12. The wax cappings can be left to drain over a grid like a stainless steel queen excluder. (Leave in a warm place to allow maximum honey to drain from the wax.)
13. The drained honey can be poured through a honey strainer. (Repeat steps 9 – 11.)

• Requires a 7mm diameter hole in the hive wall. See the video above for a range of options for location of the application.
• There should be a minimum of 100mm free space in front of the nozzle otherwise some of the Oxalic will crystalize on the surface and be wasted.
• Stable in the hive hole, does not fall out or tilt sideways, can support its own weight (do not lean on it!)
  
• Voltage indicator to protect the battery. Periodic monitoring of the voltage indicator is necessary, because the battery must not be over discharged! The exact voltage value which the battery can be discharged to, is specified by the battery manufacturer. Please check the instructions for your battery.
• Can be used with a car starter battery for up to 100-150 hives
• Insulated furnace, works well in cold, windy weather.
