Technosetbee Full Depth #2 Frame for Comb Honey Production:

This new revolutionary frame is designed for comb honey production. The beekeeper simply cuts a sheet of wax foundation into two pieces as shown in the photos and inserts each piece through an opening in the top of the frame. (One small offcut is not required.) The two squares are 203mm x 195mm each. A plastic capping locks it into place.

The Thin Super wax foundation can be purchased already cut to the correct size here.

When honey is capped, simply slice with an electric knife or a hot knife into the desired sizes. 

Each of the 4 rectangles (or windows) in the frame are 184mm high. The 2 outer rectangles are 88mm wide. the 2 inner rectangles are 97mm wide. If the comb is cut to 105mm long to suit the larger square containers, the comb honey will weigh between 300g and 340g, depending on thickness. 

Cut-comb honey containers are available here. Cut the honey comb up to suit the container sizes.

Manufactured from high quality food grade polypropylene.  End bars are 36mm wide. 10 frames will fit snugly per box. Alternatively you could fit 9 frames per box and space them evenly to produce thicker slabs of comb honey.

Comb Honey is very much sought after and sells for very high prices. These frames make the job so much easier and more efficient.

Caution! Do not use these frames in areas where the bees could collect poisonous Tutin. 

In NZ tutin zones, any honey harvested after 31st Dec must be tutin tested. When the honey is cut from the frames, the honey dribbles from every cut must be collected, blended and a sample sent to an authorised laboratory for tutin testing before the honey is sold or given away.

Tutin can potentially be collected anywhere by the bees above the latitude line of 42 degrees south in NZ. (Where the Passion Vine Hoppers live)

Propolis collection is a great way to secure additional revenue from your apiary.

Simply position the high quality polythylene mat over the top of the frames in the bee hive and fit the semi-transparent cover over top to weather proof. The bees do not like the light coming through the cover and will fill the mat with Propolis quicker than any other system available. Depending on the bees and local conditions, this can take between one and four weeks to fill. Remove mat when full, bag it and freeze it. The Propolis mat can then be gently bent and twisted to cause the frozen lumps of Propolis to fall out into the bag.

The bee hives with top entrances usually outperform other bee hives in two ways:

• There is less brood chamber congestion from honey.
• More surplus honey is stored in the honey supers.

A pair of Entry Guards are supplied with every floor. (No extra cost) There are two types available and need to be specified when the floors are ordered. There is a reversible type and the standard type. These are locked in place by the Super. The top piece clicks down to prevent bee movement while shifting. They keep mice out and help the bees to control wasp entry. They can be switched to prevent bees escaping while shifting a hive and can be removed during the honey flow to allow maximum entry size.

The Bee Escape cover makes stray bee removal during the honey harvest very easy and fast.

Designed to be used on top of stacked honey supers after they are removed from the hive and while travelling back to the extraction plant.

The semi-transparent valve on top allows the ambient light to pass through and attract any bees still left inside. Most bees will exit within 15 minutes before transporting the honey supers.

Can be used on wooden honey supers also.

Removable pollen collection tray holds up to 400 grams of pollen. The worker bee has to crawl up though a hole to get back into the hive. In the process, most of the the pollen gets scraped from her collection baskets and drops into the collection tray.
If the beehive is not getting enough pollen, the active plate with entry holes can be by-passed through a movable front door controlled by a side-lever. Incorporates a drone side entrance with a secure sliding door.

the internal pollen trap consists of four interconnecting parts. The base, the active plate, the upper protective cover to prevent contamination from the frames above, and the two trays responsible for holding the collected pollen and keeping it dry.

The active plate and protective cover can be removed at any time by sliding them outwards to free the entrance until the next scheduled collection. NB. In the photo, the full depth brood box and the floor (bottom) are shown for illustration purposes only and are not part of the kit.

Mouse proof! Avoid the embarrassment and health hazards of unwanted droppings in your pollen as can happen on some traps.

Rain proof! Even after a lot of wet weather, the pollen trays stay dry.

This trap is designed to fit the Technosetbee floor but a standard wooden floor can be modified to suit if required.

Convert a full depth Technoset brood box in the most efficient way to start nucleus hives.

In a hurry to split hives? Fit the kit to a single brood box and come back 3 days later to see which two nucs have no eggs. Scrape off any queen cells and insert a new caged queen in each. Alternatively, two queen cells can be added with queens almost ready to emerge.

During winter, the hives share the warmth generated within the brood box.

In the case of a lost queen, a divider can be removed and the two colonies united.

Each feeder has a compartment with a lid for feeding pollen patties or protein supplements. The bees can only access the syrup in a narrow passage to prevent drowning. The feeders have vents to allow damp air to disperse through the vents in the Technoset roof. To refill the feeders, simply lift the roof and top up without any disturbance to the bees. Alternatively, three feeder valves can be fitted to the roof to avoid even lifting the roof when topping up the syrup.

The middle feeder includes the entrance for the middle Nuc and a sliding door.

A marvel of engineering!

The queen breeding “machine” is here to boost efficiency and productivity. One batch of eight mated queens can pay for the initial investment. With a design life of 30 years, the Q8 is an excellent investment and a great profit winner for any queen breeder.

The Q8 is comprised of 8 independent chambers ready to receive a mature queen cell on a Tri-fold frame. These chambers are incorporated in a full depth brood box. Manufactured from twin-wall food grade polypropylene with 15mm EPS insulation fitted. The Q8 is supplied as a complete kit and is fully assembled with a vented floor, latches and roof.

The unique full depth Tri-fold frame unfolds to a standard size Langstroth frame. Provision is made for 2 wires to secure the comb foundation in each of the 3 sections. When the comb is drawn and is full of brood and supplies, the frame can be removed from the hive with all the bees attached, unclicked and folded to make 3 small frames, then transferred to one compartment of the Q8 nucleus hive for mating queens or raising new colonies. The common procedure is to insert a queen cell that is ready to emerge into each chamber.

Plastic foundation can also be used. Cut to size and attach it to the frame with the stainless steel screws that come with the Q8. We can supply sets of 24 panels already pre-cut, shaped and drilled. See below.

Three 3mm removable dividers on each side allow you to choose how many frames you want in each hive space. Easy to overwinter mated queens and supply your nucs in early spring. Some areas will be OK with just 2 frames together over winter (four hives per Q8), others will need 4 (two hives per Q8). Even with all the dividers installed, the bees share each others warmth to increase efficiencies.

There are 8 independent top feeders for solid and liquid feed supplements. They incorporate a vent to prevent condensation and all fit neatly inside the vented roof. Each feeder can hold up to 400ml of syrup plus a protein supplement.

Separate entrances with colored landing boards are used to avoid drifting between each chamber. Plastic queen excluders are included, and can be fitted to the entry to prevent accidental contact with other mated queens. Stainless ones available here

Flip-up the landing boards (locking position) to lock the bees in for safe transportation.

The importance of fresh and unpolluted water near beehives has been widely misunderstood or underestimated by many beekeepers.

Under normal conditions a productive sized colony (around 60,000 bees) needs nearly 2 litres of water every day for cooling, feeding, diluting and maintaining the right level of humidity inside the hive for healthy larvae growth.

It takes around a thousand bees to participate and carry this load. By obtaining clean water nearby, the colonies use up less precious resources from the bee hive. 

Puddles in orchards and farm crops often contain spray residues and are frequented by bees if there are no alternatives. Secure your apiary hygiene and supply them clean and unpolluted water! 

In NZ, an adapter and quick connector is included to suit the common garden tap fittings. If a water supply tank is required, we recommend a tap is fitted to suit the standard quick connector. These taps are available from most department stores like Bunnings.

The Vaporizer bowl temperature is very important to maximize the output of the Oxalic Acid without degrading it. Extensive lab testing shows that keeping the bowl temperature between 230 and 260 degrees Celsius is best:

Applications & suggested dose rates.

1. For beehives with solid bases, apply 2g of OA vapour at the bottom entry. Block the entry with a wet towel for 5–7 minutes.

2. For vented bases, use a vent blocker sheet, then follow the same process.

3. For hives with difficult-to-seal vented bases, apply 3g from the top via hive mat notch or excluder door/notch. See our stainless steel excluders with entry.

4. If the hive has a top feeder with a wooden rim, many beekeepers are applying the vapour through the rim directly below the feeder tray and into the bee space. Drill a 6.5mm hole in the rim on a slight downward angle to direct the vapour below the feeder tray. Plug with a golf tee or similar between treatments.

5. Through-the-wall dosing: drill a 6.5mm hole in the brood box and insert the brass nozzle. Plug with a golf tee or similar between treatments. It is best to locate the hole as high as possible at the side of the front plate so the vapour is directed alongside the outer frame. This method is the least most desirable of the 5 options.

NB. There should be 80mm to 100mm of free air space in front of the nozzle during discharge. Otherwise, 10% - 20% of the oxalic acid will solidify on a surface that is right in front and too close.

Sealed and durable with handles, this is the perfect size to soak 100 of the Swedish Cloth strips. It is not recommended to use soak bins any larger because it is very hard to get a consistent weight per strip.

Stack bins of freshly soaked batches together to conserve heat and facilitate a better soaking process. If possible, leave the bins in a warm room at around 30°C (86°F) for first 2 hours after soaking, or leave a fan heater blowing warm air on them for a few hours.
